Tour Details – Isla Mujeres Whale Shark Experience

Your Whale Shark Experience actually begins the day before your trip. If you reserved a seat through this website you’ll need to check in between 4 pm and 8 pm the night before your trip at Adrian’s Internet Cafe (next to the Super Aki grocery store in the main square downtown) (Google maps view) to confirm you reservation, receive the tour departure time (normally at 7:30 am unless the habits of the sharks require a last minute change) and receive any last minute trip details. If you haven’t previously made a reservation you’ll want to stop by to check for availability and get your ticket. Ramon, or one of his guides, will be at Adrian’s Internet Cafe each night during the season (between 4 pm and 8 pm) to answer any questions guests have.

If you are not staying on Isla Mujeres or cannot get to Adrian’s cafe during the above mentioned hours please call or text Ramon’s cell phone to receive instructions. +52 1 998 156 9994

The next morning, bright and early, you and your group will meet up at the restaurant Muelle 7 (which is just to the left of the gas station dock) (Google maps view) where you’ll meet the captain, guide and the rest of the adventure-seeking – animal-loving people who will be sharing your experience. You’ll receive a short briefing to describe what to expect, review the rules and generally come to an understanding of how to have the best trip possible and not cause distress to the sharks you’ll be encountering. During the briefing, you’ll have a chance to enjoy coffee and pastries to get your energy started for the adventure.

Once everyone is situated you’ll head out and marvel at the morning view of Isla Mujeres’s downtown and breathtaking North Beach. Whale Shark territory covers a roughly seven-mile wide circle, but you’ll be in range within 1.5 – 2 hours. You’ll spend the rest of this unforgettable morning scouting out groups of Whale Sharks. Each encounter allows for two people to enter the water at a time, along with your guide. Once everyone has finished their adventures with the sharks, each passenger is offered snacks of fruit, sandwiches and your choice of water or soda to keep you hydrated.

When your time is up, the boat will head back toward Isla, giving you another chance to take in the beauty of the open ocean. With luck you’ll see pods of dolphins or sea turtles along the way. Getting close to Isla, upon group consensus, you may have the chance to do a quick snorkel in the reefs just northeast of the island.

Once the boat arrives back near Isla they will stop and prepare you the freshest ceviche you can get, along with more water or soda to add the relaxing touch you’ll need after such an amazing adventure. Plan to return to the docks on Isla Mujeres between 2-3 pm.

If you are reserving in a large group we cannot guarantee that your entire group will be together unless you make prior arrangements with us. Boat assignments are done on the morning of the tour and depend on the number of tour participants and boats available. If you are in a large group we highly recommend that you either contact us ahead of time using the emails below to make arrangements or arrive early on the morning of the trip and inform your guide of the size of your group. This way your guide can factor that into his planning and do his best to accommodate your group.
